Trauma & Complex Trauma
Trauma is defined as "a deeply distressing or disturbing experience", encompassing any event with the capacity to leave you feeling unsafe physically, psychologically, or emotionally.
Complex trauma refers to exposure to multiple or prolonged traumatic events, usually occurring in childhood. It can deeply affect a person's development, relationships, and sense of self.
In treating trauma and complex trauma, we work to repair ruptures to our sense of safety, attachments, trust, self-worth, and to effectively leave traumatic events in the past.
Infertility
Infertility can have significant psychological impacts, often leading to feelings of grief, shame, guilt, isolation, and loss of control. Frequently individuals experience anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, and strained relationships. The emotional toll is often intensified by societal pressures and the repeated cycle of hope and disappointment.
All of these things fall into the category of reproductive trauma. Utilizing trauma treatments can help to desensitize the build up of distressing emotions and make space for grief processing and healing from past disappointments.
Family of Origin Issues
Dysfunction in one’s family of origin—the family one grows up in—can yield deep and long-lasting distress and learned dysfunction. Common effects include anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, and difficulty trusting others. Individuals may also struggle with emotional regulation, attachment issues, and patterns of codependency or avoidance in relationships. These issues often develop when families are marked by neglect, abuse, addiction, control, inconsistency, or lack of emotional support.
Therapy can help break generational dysfunction by supporting development of healthy coping and breaking down negative core beliefs.
